The Kings
College Hospital Limb reconstruction trust was set up in late 2006
with a view to helping those facing limb reconstruction and those
presently undergoing these surgeries.
The aims are
to ensure that patients have as fuller understanding as possible of
what they may be facing during their surgery and to also help them
adapt to living whilst wearing fixation.
It is also
intended to produce documentation and even video aids for both
patients and medical personell covering from the initial meeting
between patient and surgeon through to physiotherapy and eventual
frame removal.
The trust also
intends to help surgeons and nursing staff understand the problems
that patients face whilst undergoing limb reconstruction surgery and,
by interaction between patient and medical staff, to enable a better
mutual understanding of the situation.
